VIDEO: Tori Spelling in Trailer for New Movie Based on H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu

Cthulu in Theaters: August 22, 2008

The summer's well over half over, but there are still upcoming summer horror films to look forward to, such as Mirrors (which hits theaters a week from today, August 15) and now, a new movie based on H.P.Lovecraft's Cthulu myth, appropriately titled Cthulu. The film appears to be largely drama-based, but you can tell from the following trailer that it isn't devoid of the terror which has made Lovecraft's Cthulu such a classic part of horror literature. Yes, it appears to be relatively low-budget, and yes it does have Tori Spelling in it, but it doesn't look all bad from this video. Thoughts?

For those interested in an awesome film based on Cthulu, we can't recommend the film Dagon (2001) enough, which comes from horror director Stuart Gordon (Re-Animator, From Beyond).

Its hard to say if this one is going to be a boring lamefest or something truly scary... You can never really tell from trailers anymore. But when it gets into the "things" coming from the water it looks pretty cool. I dunno about Tori Spelling but we will see.

It's true that sometimes trailers sometimes fail to be an accurate representation of the quality of the film, especially when we're talking about low-budget movies which tend to have crummy trailers. I remember I saw the trailer to Dagon (another movie based on Lovecraft's Cthulu myth) before seeing the actual film and thought the movie looked like crap based on what was shown in the trailer and how it was presented. It turned out that Dagon was pretty awesome.

that box on the beach with arms sticking out of it looked pretty cool.
