FEATURE: 7 Entertainers Who were Tragically Killed on Stage

Aug. 11 1:16 PM by Eater of Entrails

From horror movies to heavy metal, death almost always plays a major role in the subject matter and themes of popular entertainment. But sometimes death is not something that is planned and used in the creation of art. Read on OMGHorror recalls seven real deaths of actors, entertainers and musicians who have died while giving their final performance.

Dimebag Darell
How He Died: Shot 3 times in the head by crazed fan.
On December 8, 2004, Darell "Dimebag" Abbot, best known for being the guitarist for Texan metal legends Pantera, was viciously gunned down and killed while on stage in Columbus, Ohio with his band at the time Damageplan. Three bullets were fired into Dimebag's head by an enraged paranoid schizophrenic who had just been discharged from the US Marines for being unstable. A fan, a roadie, and a security guard were also slain during the massacre, and to this day, Dimebag Darell's murder remains one of the darkest days in heavy metal. As a tribute to this metal hero, watch this video compilation comprised of killer Dimebag guitar solos:

Brandon Lee
How He Died: Shot in the abdomen by faulty gun filled with blanks.
Son of celebrated action star and martial artist Bruce Lee, Brandon Lee was accidentally slain while on set during the filming of The Crow. In one scene in the film, an actor who played one of the movie's villains was supposed to fire a gun at Lee who was saving a woman from being raped. The gun, which was loaded with makeshift blanks, malfunctioned, sending the hunk of metal through Lee's stomach, lodging into his spine. Some believe the Lee family to be cursed as Brandon's father Bruce also died during the filming of Enter the Dragon during a dubbing session.

Vic Morrow, Myca Dinh Le, and Renee Shin-Yi Chen
How They Died: Decapitation and trauma via helicopter
During the filming of Twilight Zone: The Movie, three actors, Vic Morrow, Myca Dinh Le, Renee Shin-Yi Chen were slain after a helicopter which was being filmed spun out of control and decapitated Morrow and Le, smashing the body of Chen under the chopper's landing skid. Le and Chen were only 6 and 7 years old when they were torn apart by the out of control helicopter. The horrible incident resulted in the filmmakers having to go to court for years, new safety regulations made regarding child actors, and Steven Spielberg no longer speaking to director John Landis who violated numerous film codes prior to this disaster including using live ammunition on the movie set. Warning: The following clip contains disturbing footage of the horrific accident.

Owen Hart
How He Died: Falling 80 feet to the ground
In a dangerous stunt before his Pay-Per-View match against The Godfather, Owen Hart, who had a fear of heights in real life, was supposed to be lowered into the ring on a harness and then fall a few inches from the mat. Instead, Hart was accidentally released prematurely from the harness, falling almost 80 feet to his death.

Steve Irwin
How He Died: Heart impaled by stingray barb
Steve Irwin, better known as The Crocodile Hunter, was killed on September 4, 2006, not by the countless crocodiles he'd come into deadly contact with during the course of his career, but a stingray, a creature which is known for not only not being passive, but is known for fleeing instead of defending itself when being attacked. While snorkeling in Australia for a documentary titled Ocean's Deadliest, the stingray pierced Irwin's chest with its spine, puncturing his heart. Irwin died when he removed the barb from his chest.

These untimely deaths were all such tragedies. The Twilight Zone Movie accident is the worst of them. John Landis really fucked up his career with that one.

That Vic Morrow and company Twilight Zone tragedy was a like an awful real-life Twilight Zone episode within a make believe Twilight Zone movie - just creepy shit. Vic Morrow is an actor still missed today, check him out in a little exploitation horror flick called Humanoids From the Deep (1980). Good stuff!

:( Dimebag was so talented.

That really sucks. What a way to go out, ya know?

Yeah. I was hesitant to post the video of the helicopter crash, but decided to just do it because a.) the video isn't all that grisly and b.) it's important to see how dangerous sloppy filmmaking can actually be.

RIP dimebag darrel and RIP the rest
