NEWS: Freddy Krueger Returns!

Feb. 5 10:01 AM by Eater of Entrails

Variety reports that New Line Cinema's classic slasher flick, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and the film's killer Freddy will be coating the silver screen in a fresh layer of blood and innards because the film is being remade.

Iconic burn victim and child slayer Freddy Krueger will carve up licentious teenagers in their dreams with his razor-sharp claws once again as Wes Craven's legendary horror film, A Nightmare on Elm Street, is official set for a remake. New Line's immensely successful 1984 original film will be redone by director Marcus Nispel (Texas Chainsaw Massacre [2003]) and production company Platinum Dunes, who, in addition to working on 2003's TCM and its prequel Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, are currently working on several other horror remakes such as Friday the 13th and Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds.

Although it is unconfirmed whether the new Nightmare movie will be a remake or a prequel, it's likely that Freddy's next movie will be a completely different film from the original much like the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake started from scratch (other than salvaging the franchise's main idea and a few essential characters).

It is also unknown at this time whether or not Robert Englund will be reprising his role as the series' clawed killer, which has also been the subject of some debate on the internet. But if you ask us, creating another A Nightmare on Elm Street without Englund is like trying to make an egg salad sandwich without eggs. There's not a whole lot of shit that tastes like eggs.

Wes Craven, the first film's writer and director, is not said to have any involvement in the upcoming movie. Craven is however planning to remake one of his other fright flicks, Shocker, which is about a TV repairman who, after being sent to the electric chair, comes back to life to wreak havoc on those who have wronged him with his new ability to travel through power lines and television sets.

Final Word: While the new A Nightmare on Elm Street is still in its infantile stages, this is still big news and we're hungry for every microscopic morsel of information on this movie. It's true that Freddy vs. Jason 2 probably would have been the safer sequel to pursue that would please horror fans, but we're still extremely stoked to see Krueger ready to hack up more residents of Elm. Street.

There is no Freddy without Robert Englund. Who could they possibly get to play him?

I'm going to have to agree with you Monkey Fish--Robert Englund IS Freddy Krueger. I wonder who the hell they'll replace him with...

Hopefully they don't put in as big of a douche as Josh Hartnett.

With our luck it will be Hayden Christensen or Casey Affleck.

Freddy's replacement would have to be a bit older than Christensen, Affleck, and even Kutcher to remain true to the original Freddy Krueger character who was much older than these Hollywood pansies.

Freddy V.s. Jason was a big mistake.
No one can get away with playing Freddy as well as Englund could!
