From time to time, OMGHorror will publish real life accounts of horror and the macabre. Ranging from ghost stories, to heinous murders, to medical anomalies, True Horror will address generally fucked up things going on in the world outside of horror films, literature, and other forms of entertainment. These posts are by no means intended to glorify these occurrences, but are simply presented for you to chew on.
American scientists at the Safar Center for Resuscitation Research have successfully reanimated dozens of deceased canines. The zombie dogs had been clinically dead for up to 3 hours after all the blood had been drained from their bodies.
The reanimation process entails completely draining the dogs of blood, filling their veins with a freezing cold liquid solution, restoring their blood, and then using electricity to bring them back to life (ala Dr. Frankenstein). It should be noted that during the 3 hours of "death", the animals have no heartbeat or brain activity.
Final Word: As much as all this sounds like the plot from a zombie flick, this is absolutely true. These experiments were conducted in hopes that in the future, human beings can be resurrected in a similar manner, but we can't help but wonder what the once dead look and act like after released from death's icy grip. Is it possible that the deceased return dangerously violent as seen in movies like Re-Animator and Frankenstein? Or perhaps they return more like the mentally inferior living dead seen in numerous zombie movies. Keep in mind that after 3 hours of being dead, various initial stages of decomposition have already begun such as rigor mortis (stiffening of the corpse) and livor mortis (discoloration of the tissue) , so it's possible that the resurrected, be them human or beast, won't look alive but more akin to something out of a Romero film.

That is insane! I cant believe they actually pulled off a ReAnimator. They claim that most of the dogs "awakening in full command of their faculties." Im just waiting to see how they look in a month or two.
Reanimating dogs is all wrong. You have to bury them in the Pet Semetary.
This is perfect. I just bought a house in some town called Raccoon City on the cheap and I could use some guard dogs.
I'd face a resurrected canine from the Pet Semetary before the resurrected toddler any day.
Is it more than just a coincidence that this is taking place in Pittsburgh, the home of George A. Romero,Master of the dead? Pittsburgh was also were the first the "dead" films was lensed.
wow
I've seen a video where for some reason, these scientists pretty much took apart a dog and then kept it's heart beating and kept it's head alive w/ an artifical something or another. I can't remember.
Anyways.. it was heartbreaking to watch, specially the head part. Poor puppy :(
WOW thats crazy!
poor dogs probly woke up in so much pain, and if thats pitsburgh PA thats a few hours from my house i might be fucked lol if they get outand become like in resident evil dogs
I have a few articles written up about this stuff on our website The Zombie Zodiac, it's really fascinating stuff! But, did you know that this reanimation didn't just start in the US? In fact, it was all started in Russia in the 1940's, there's some crazy film footage of it as well. Plus, head-swap operations have been done since the 70's, from what I've researched, the head-swap procedure is supposed to be "ready for human trials" but naturally they haven't found any volunteers yet!
