In the first edition of a reoccurring feature on OMGHorror, where we'll revisit a non-horror film made by a horror filmmaker, we highlight 1986's action-fantasy schlock Big Trouble in Little China. Directed by celebrated master of horror John Carpenter (Halloween, The Thing, and numerous other films), this movie takes place in San Francisco's Chinatown where Chinese gangs proficient in martial arts, a 2,000-year-old sorcerer, and three dudes with giant baskets on their heads have taken over the streets. Kurt Russell, as an über-American truck driver in a white tank top, must make sense of the film's beyond absurd plot and take down the forces of evil in order to save some chick with green eyes. Despite Big Trouble in Little China's rather stupid premise, it's regarded as a classic and is actually extremely entertaining if you don't analyze what's on screen too much. Hell, this guy even got dual arm sleeves tattooed in honor of BTILC.
This dude's facial expression alone is reason enough to watch Big Trouble in Little China.
Aren't convinced of the movie's cheesy awesomeness? Just watch the clip below and tell me it doesn't rule.

I grew up on this flick, Jack Burton is one of the most ineptly hilarious movie heroes of all time. And what about the smokin' Pre-Mannequin Kim Catrall...Nice! Can't forget carpenter's Starman either, hell of a performance by Jeff Bridges.
Big Trouble is great but I have to say my fav non horror Carpenter classic has to go to another Kurt Russell favorite, Escape from New York! It features spagetti western classic, Lee Van Cleef, the ever awesome Ernest Borgnine (also known as Mermaid Man in SpongeBob to all you youngsters) and the super sexy horror icon Adrienne Barbeau. Long live Snake Plissken!
You are indeed correct... that man's facial expression IS enough for me to see this film.
Wow, big trouble in little china is amazing. Coolest part is where the guy pictured with the big straw hat is going insane and shooting lightning everywhere while the temple is on fire and crumbling. Great movie.
Haha! YES. Another rad scene from Big Trouble in Little China is when Lo-Pan gets stuck in the head with a knife.
I haven't seen BTiLC for at least 15 years, but I'll never forget that one dude's head inflating and then exploding.
that movie was so stupid, but i loved it
