Murder Movie Mondays: Cigarette Burns

May. 5 4:06 PM by Eater of Entrails

John Carpenter's one hour long Cigarette Burns aired during the first season of Showtime's Masters of Horror series where numerous acclaimed horror filmmakers make their own short-length films. In Cigarette Burns, which is easily the finest entry in the series, a man goes in search of an infamous but hard to track down horror film that allegedly makes the viewer go insane after watching it. It's packs some really gnarly gore scenes that I won't spoil for you and it's arguably the best thing Carpenter has done since The Thing. Enjoy!

Awesome pick! This is one of the few good things that came out of the first season of Masters of Horror. BUT if you like this definitely check out the second season which is great!

I'm admittedly quite pedestrian when it comes to Masters of Horror, only seeing a few entries (No Showtime, nor Netflix). Always down to see what weird s*it Carpenter has to offer. Nice pick EoE, I'm watching this sucker tonight!

Thanks monkeyfish! I agree that Cigarette Burns is the best of season one. The never aired Imprint from Season 1 (which is now on DVD) is also highly recommended.

I sure do love my Murder Movie Mondays! NO more WORK! Only movies!

I still need to watch the shining...

Cool pic i havent seen this one but if its half as cool as pelts then it will be good

The entrail movie reel was a bit uncalled for though...

Killatron--I don't know if I'd say it's better than Pelts, but it's definitely as good. Both rule. So does Family and Right to Die. You seen either of those??

Right to Die is the first movie to scare me big time in a really really long time. Scared the shit out of me and makes me never want to cheat on my wife.

Family was so awesome! That really creeped me out. If you watch those two you should also see ProLife with Ron Pearlman and The Black Cat which is the best representation I've ever seen of the Poe short story. If you haven't read it, you should. Its fantastic and very short (for you none readers out there).
