NEWS: Dawn of the Dead 3-D: Prepare for Zombies in Your Face!

Zombies + 3D = Gorgasm

Zombies + 3D = Gorgasm

In addition to the meaty slew of new 3-D horror films on the horizon that we discussed in a previous post, the quintessential horror classic Dawn of the Dead (1978) is also going 3-D. George A. Romero's original zombie epic will be "dimensionalized" by In-Tree, Inc., the same company that is working on bringing us the original Star Wars trilogy in 3-D.

While 3-D movies aren't for everybody, hordes of angry zombies clawing and biting as they pop out of the screen sounds like a total blast to us. And the movie will definitely be 12X better than the heinously wretched Night of the Living Dead 3-D which was released in 2006 and starred Sid Haig (The Devil's Rejects, House of a 1000 Corpses).

Now, to hold us over, let's enjoy this memorable scene for Dawn of the Dead (1978) where Flyboy gets lobotomized via sniper round:

Sweet! I'm still not sure about 3-D but this is the movie to do! I'm especially looking forward to seeing the machete to the head in 3-D.

I've only heard good things about the dimensionalization process.

Dawn of the Dead in 3-D!? That's pretty damn awesome. George Lucas, Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson have high praise for the "dimensionalization" process for making old movies 3-D. Let's hope they don't add any extra scenes that don't fit in like they Lucas did with his original Star Wars trilogy.

this is the only Romero zombie film i havent seen (not counting Diary, or Day remake, i hear those were really bad)

Even as gimmicky as some people have pointed 3D out to be, this is no doubt bound to be better than NoLD-3D, or the Day of the Dead remake -which are unforgivably bad.

Shout out to Sid Haig though, back to when he was runnin' with Pam Grier in those '70s exploitation classics. All class!

They've made 2 different Night of the Living Dead remakes, a Dawn of the Dead remake, a Day of the Dead remake and a Day of the Dead spinoff. I wonder how long it'll be until they rework Land of the Dead or Diary of the Dea in some fasion.

Kinda random, I know.

How much does this cost relative to the amount of money it will generate? I can't imagine a 70's movie making additional buckets of cash aside from the people that visit this website regularly. And will it be released on DVD in 3-d format...can that translate to home viewing?

Don't forget the 40th Anniversary edition of Night of the Living Dead is on DVD this week as well. I love the flick and all, but damn, that ish has seen more releases than a correctional facility. Sucks when you buy a bare bones copy of a flick and it comes out in lavish like six times thereafter.
