NEWS: M.Night Admits Lady in the Water was a Turd, Looks Forward to His New Film

Will you give M.Night another chance and see his new movie?

In an article in the Los Angeles Times, writer and director M. Night Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense, Signs) said "I'm sick of feeling like I hope the cool people like me" when talking about the extremely negative response his last film Lady in the Water received from critics and fans alike.

Shyamalan elaborates on his feelings about not meeting everyone's expectations with his movies, saying "you know that thing you do when you're in school? And you're in your mid-30s and you go, 'I'm sick of feeling this way.' And you kind of like have this urge to take all your clothes off and run outside and say, 'Make fun of me. Are we done? Is that it? Good, let's go on with our lives.'" It should be noted that while the filmmakers first major film The Sixth Sense was a hit, receiving six Academy Award nominations, his last onscreen effort Lady in the Water won four Golden Rasberry Awards for Worst Picture, Worst Director, Worst Screenplay, and even Worst Actor (for Shyamalan's own performance in his film).

Even though M.Night appears to be in a downward spiral with his films getting worse and worse, the director's spirit isn't broken and he looks forward to his upcoming thriller The Happening which is about a deadly neurotoxin that is released into the air after humans come into contact with a plant. You Can watch the trailer for the new movie below:

Okay, so this is somewhat unrelated to the story above, but when I read M.Night's statements in the L.A. Tiimes, I instantly thought about a true story of mine. It's funny how the director is complaining about being fed up with not feeling like he and his films are perceived as being "cool" and how he even feels as though the public makes fun of him. I say this because an extremely close friend of mine ran into Shyamalan roughly two years ago at a restaurant in Utah and publicly ridiculed the director to his face, telling him his feelings about M.Night being a hack and how my friend wanted his money back for paying to see the director's movies. Now, if you met my friend (who's a big dude you wouldn't want to have shouting at you), you'd know that I'm paraphrasing here and the actual conversation was laden with obscenities.

lol! I heard the happening is really bad too. Poor M. Night... why don't you make something other than a thriller and you wont get this response! You need to stop with the twists because you wont do it better than the Sixth Sense. I still want to see the Happening (I'm not sure why)... After the village I don't know why I bother...

He is by far not the worst director, what about the guy who made those garfield movies, or the scooby doo films, or the really un-wanted sequel to the Mask film the one with Jim Carrey, his films are far better than the fast and the furious franchise as well as You Got Served or what about I Still Know What you did Last Summer or how about The Grudge 2, One Missed Call, or why dont you go yell at the director who made Wild Hogs, or Are We There Yet?, the sequel Are We Done Yet?, what about that horrible Larry the Cable Guy movie Delta Farce, or Witless Protection, his films have a great visual Yes Signs was not a good movie, I could put it on par with I am Legend.

Yeah maybe you were disappointed by his other films but they are not the worst and not all the blame can be solely put on the director even though that is how we feel movies are done by a single person.

Oh well, hopefully he keeps making movies they are at least better than Uwe Boll's.

Totally agree that if Uwe Boll can keep getting his projects greenlit then M. Night can too. I am in the minority since I really have enjoyed each of M. Night's movies, except "Lady" which I did not see just because of the bad reviews. I thought "Unbreakable" was unfairly compared to "Sixth Sense" just because it was the next movie he made. If you ignore the part about how the aliens in "Signs" should have been able to tell that Earth is covered with the substance that is toxic to them, then it is a pretty suspenseful movie with good emotional parts, especially regarding the death of Mel's wife (by M. Night, no less!), Joaquin's perceived failures, and the family struggling to stay together. "The Village"...I saw the alleged twist coming about halfway through the film, but still do not think it was poorly made. I think the expectations are just too high for him to make another film on par with "Sixth Sense" and until he does he becomes easy to gang up on, not helped by the fact that he keeps putting himself in his movies. He's not Hitchock yet. I can't wait until "The Happening" and will go in with an open mind, fully prepared to enjoy it.

Damn, I'd pay much more to see your friend lambaste M. Night than I would to see The Happening, starring Marky Mark no less. It seems M. Night needs to pipe down, ratchet up, and make a freakin' decent picture already.

I am finding it more and more alarming how often I am in the minority when it comes to my tastes in movies. I really enjoyed Lady In The Water. He created a modern day fairy tale, which in its self is an accomplishment. I think the only thing he may have done wrong with the film was focus it towards a very specific audience: The Writer. LITW is aimed fully and directly at writers of stories and screenplays, and all his "twists" were playing off the cliches and accepted devices of modern writing.

Im not going to change anyone's mind about the film, but I did feel I should chip in my two cents.

Wow, your friend sounds like a real winner.

While I wouldn't say that M.Nights movies are terrible, they're not very good. Not a big fan of the cheap twist at the end of his films.

I think we should give the guy a break and focus all of our negative energy at directors like Uwe Boll. I enjoyed, but not loved, a handful of M. Night movies like signs and sixth sense. Let's try and be optimistic here and hope for a good solid movie with The Happening.

Did he admit that The Village was crap? That movie sucked.
