After Hostel: Part II, the sequel to Eli Roth's brutally violent 2005 horror film about an underground Slovakian hunting club where you can literally pay money to mutilate and torture humans, failed to meet the success of its predecessor, talk on Hostel: Part III ceased and the director eventually made it clear that he's not interested in doing a sequel. However, now reports are surfacing that the third movie in the Hostel series is indeed coming.
According to Bloody-Disgusting.com, they have "confirmed rumors" that Hostel III is in the works. The source also notes that Scott Spiegel (producer of Hostel, Hostel: Part II, and writer of Evil Dead II) is being considered to direct Hostel: Part III. While it might be a bit early to get excited about "confirmed rumors," any news on Hostel 3 is a pretty big deal considering the movie was not going to happen for so long.
It'll be interesting to see what the third film in the grisly series will be about (that is, if it does come to fruition), but we can't help but wonder if it'll tell the story of what happens to Beth after she castrates and beheads a couple of members of Elite Hunting at the end of the second movie. It would definitely be cool to see her get revenge by going after the remaining members of Elite Hunting, turning the torturers into the torturees. Or maybe it'll tell an entirely new story, perhaps a prequel chronicling the formation and beginnings of the Elite Hunting organization. What do you think Hostel: Part III should/could be about?

I would love to see Beth become super corrupted and maybe even take over managing the Elite Hunting Club and I would like her to make it into something even more sick and horrific.
i'd like to see them put it straight to DVD so i don't have to spend more time putting it together than i did enjoying it
i think it might be about an underground Slovakian hunting club where you can pay money to mutilate and torture humans...
but that's just me.

Wow, a Hostel movie without Roth? Color me surprised. I had assumed he'd earned enough cachet with the fans that they'd leave his 'baby' alone after he signed off.
It's hard to say if a change of director will bring about a change/evolution of the franchise, or if it's just a ploy to cash in on more of the same. It'll be interesting to hear how it develops.
Spiegel doesn't have imdb pedigree (aside from, apparently, "is buddies with a lot of famous directors"), so it's hard to know what to expect from him, but I predict something less edgy and more tongue-in-cheek. Put my bet on the revenge-on-the-torturers fantasy.
I agree the flick will probably take a hit without Roth. But I'd like to see an angle where we just see the whole film through the eyes of the torturers - never knowing the victims until we see them in the Slovakian torture chamber. Like hang out with one of the killers all day leading up to the time when he/she feels the need to maim and kill. Instead of identifying with the teens/young adults - they should flip the whole thing around and have us get inside the head of the sicko killers. That would be a film!

I agree with you KouAidou--weaving more comedy into the third Hostel film could work out (the way that Texas Chainsaw Massacre II did). I'm really surprised the Saw franchise exploded so much more than the Hostel franchise, which I consider to be superior.
Blood_Bather:
Man, I would love that angle if they could do it well. That's actually my favorite kind of Horror -- the "sympathy for the devil" type. But it seems so hard to pull off without it either feeling like a betrayal or a cheap twist.
(As I mentioned in another thread, Landis's "Family" was one of my favorite MoH episodes for this reason... you knew that what he was doing was pure evil but he was just so god damned likable, and it's not like he knew any better... so it just leaves you feeling icky and wrong, and I love it.)
Eater_of_Entrails:
Yeah, I have really mixed feelings about Saw. I feel like it's a great premise but it's just not executed up to par, which just leaves me feeling frustrated. I can't escape the feeling that it's intentionally dumbing itself down for the mainstream audience.
The Hostel franchise is not my favorite milieu (though I'm slowly gaining some appreciation for the well-executed splatterpic, in part thanks to this blog), but at least it does what it does without apology. What's your reasoning on it, out of curiosity?

ehhh... the first two saws i thought were better than the first two (assuming the 3rd is made) because i thought at the time jigsaw was extraordinarily intriguing... but the saw series has for the better part derailed... will i be there oct 24th when it comes out? most likely... but had their merits, first hostel anyway... other than the one particularly brutal sequence in two, i just didn't get into it
