NEWS: Dead Rising Headed for the Nintendo Wii

Jul. 16 2:47 PM by Eater of Entrails

Capcom's other zombie-slaughtering video game, Dead Rising, which is set in a shopping mall overrun by the living dead (sound like any movie you know?), is coming to the Nintendo Wii according to Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu. For those unfamiliar with the horror game that originally appeared on the Xbox 360 in 2006, in it the player controls Frank West, a photojournalist in the wrong place at the wrong time who is forced to battle the armies of the undead using hundreds of weapons, everything from frying pans to kitanas.

Wii owners will soon be using their Wii Remote and Nunchuk to massacre their way though the zombie-filled mall in Dead Rising.

But Dead Rising for the Wii is said to be more than simply a straight port, instead shipping with a number of bonuses exclusive to the Wii version. Here's what is known to be included in Dead Rising Wii:

  • motion controls in order to take advantage of the Wii's unique motion sensing technology (with hundreds of weapons in the game and hundreds more ways to kill zombies, imagine how many things you'll be doing with the Wii Remote and Nunchuk in Dead Rising Wii)
  • all-new weapons for you to weild
  • an over-the-shoulder camera mode a la Resident Evil 4
  • at least one new boss not featured in the Xbox 360 version of the game

I personally heard from an anonymous source a few months back that Capcom did have something in store for Wii owners in terms of a zombie title. My first thought was Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles 2, which could have you blasting zombies from Resident Evil 2, Code Veronica, and Resident Evil 4 since these were left out of the original Umbrella Chronicles, and then Resident Evil Zero was announced to be ported to the Wii this summer with no frills added, so I thought this was the RE Wii game I'd heard about. Now it turns out that the game is in fact Dead Rising, which is a good home for the game considering how well the Wii port of Resident Evil 4 did sales wise.

Actual screenshots from the upcoming Wii version of Dead Rising. Notice the new over-the-head camera displayed and the Wii Remote icons prompting the player to perform a specific motion.

Damn, just taking interactivity to a new height. This looks like it might be a hot bit of fun - wonder what it's like after a few tall ones. Uh, never mind kids, scratch that. Looking forward to seeing what kinds of new weapons are in this one. Never disrespect the chainsaw though.

I don't have a good feeling about this one. DR was one of my favorite 360 titles, and I worry if the Wii has the power to fill the screen with hundreds of zombies. Porting RE4 from the GameCube is one thing, Bringing a game like this to weaker hardware is a lot trickier.

If the Wii can handle Super Mario Galaxy, it can handle Dead Rising.

GREAT! The only video games I buy are horror games and I'll definitely be buying this. Even though I already bought the 360 version of Dead Rising.

I also didn't know that Resident Evil 0 (Zero) was coming to the Wii. That'll be another one to look forward to. Shit, and Resident Evil 5 too for 360.

Can't wait to see how they're gonna use the motion sensing. Looks promising to me. Don't be a Negative Nelly Dave. lol

This is so awesome. Thank you publishers for putting mature titles on the Wii. Its about time we get some more note worthy titles! Definitely getting this one!

This is not going to work, i promise. it will suck.
